YBA（Young British Artists）と呼ばれる作家たちが活躍した1980年代～2000年代、日本もバブル崩壊や阪神・淡路大震災、インターネットの普及など、社会が大きく変わっていく時でもありました。そんな時代に生まれたアーティストたちは、現在の地球環境の変化、虚実入り乱れた情報が溢れるSNS、パンデミックや戦争など、ますます複雑化する世界をどのように見つめているのでしょうか。
「Tell me why」展では、様々なメディアを用いてそんな複雑な世界と自身との関りを探求し、新たな物語を紡ぐアーティストたちを紹介します。
漆を人と自然の媒介者と捉え、人間と非人間的な存在の関わりを見つめて漆画を制作する沖田愛有美。自己と他者の関係に介在する肉体や存在を主題とし、絵画や儀式的パフォーマンスを展開する倉敷安耶。印刷技術によるイメージの複製と、物質との往還を通じてドローイングを再定義する藤田紗衣。都市に残されたグラフィティを木彫へと再構成する葭村太一。
アプローチの異なる4組のアーティストたちの問いに耳を澄ませながら、複雑な世界をともに見つめ直す展示をお楽しみください。
During the 1980s–2000s, when artists known as the Young British Artists (YBA) were active, Japan was also undergoing major social change, marked by the collapse of the economic bubble, the Great Hanshin–Awaji Earthquake, and the spread of the internet. Artists born in this period now confront an increasingly complex world shaped by environmental transformation, the flood of mixed truth and fiction on social media, pandemics, and war. How do they perceive and respond to such conditions today?
“Tell me why” introduces artists who explore their relationship to this complex world through diverse media, weaving new narratives from their inquiries.
Ayumi Okita creates urushi lacquer paintings that regard lacquer as a mediator between humans and nature, examining relationships between human and non-human entities.
Aya Kurashiki develops paintings and ritual-based performances centered on the body and existence as sites mediating the self and the other.
Sae Fujita redefines drawing through the reproduction of images via printing technologies and their oscillation with material presence.
Taichi Yoshimura reconstructs graffiti left in urban spaces into wooden sculpture.
We invite you to listen closely to the questions posed by these four artists with distinct approaches, and to reconsider together the complexities of the world we inhabit.
キュレータープロフィール
入澤聖明(愛知県陶磁美術館学芸員)
1987年大阪府生まれ。京都市立芸術大学大学院修士課程芸術学領域修了。京都国立近代美術館キュレトリアル・インターンシップを経て、2015年から2017年までアサヒグループ（旧アサヒビール）大山崎山荘美術館で学芸員として勤務。2018年より愛知県陶磁美術館学芸員（現代陶芸）。専門は日本の近・現代陶芸史。芸術表現としての陶芸だけでなく、産業的な視点も軸として展覧会を企画。
近年の主な担当展は「ホモ・ファーベルの断片」（2022年）、「国際芸術祭「あいち」地域展開事業 底に触れる 現代美術 in 瀬戸」（2024年／副田一穂、芹澤なみき 共同企画）、「やきもの現代考ー混融 Mixed Meltingー」（2025年）。その他、国際芸術祭「あいち2025」にキュレーター（現代美術）として参画。
青木彬（インディペンデント・キュレーター／社会福祉士）
1989年生まれ。東京、京都を拠点に活動。首都大学東京インダストリアルアートコース卒業。一般社団法人藝とディレクター。アートを「よりよく生きるための術」と捉え、アーティストや企業、自治体と協働して様々なアートプロジェクトを企画している。 これまでの主な活動に「SENSE ISLAND／LAND｜感覚の島と感覚の地 2024」ゲストキュレーター（横須賀市,2024）、戸田建設株式会社が行なうラーニングプログラム「APK STUDIES」ファシリテーター（TODA BUILDING,2025～）、まちを学びの場に見立てる「ファンタジア!ファンタジア!─生き方がかたちになったまち─」ディレクター(墨田区,2018～)などがある。出版物に『素が出るワークショップ』（学芸出版）編著、『幻肢痛日記』（河出書房新社）著。
Curator Profiles
Masaaki Irizawa
Curator, Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum
Born in Osaka in 1987. Completed his Master’s degree in Art Studies at Kyoto City University of Arts. After completing a curatorial internship at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, he served as a curator at the Asahi Group Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art (formerly Asahi Breweries) from 2015 to 2017. Since 2018, he has been a curator (Modern and Contemporary Ceramics) at the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum.
Specializing in the history of modern and contemporary Japanese ceramics, Irisawa curates exhibitions that explore ceramics not only as an artistic expression but also through the lens of industrial history. His recent major exhibitions include Fragments of Homo Faber (2022), Touching the Bottom: Contemporary Art in Seto (Aichi Triennale Regional Project, 2024; co-curated with Kazuho Soeda and Namiki Serizawa), and Contemporary Ceramics: Mixed Melting (2025). He also serves as a curator (Contemporary Art) for the Aichi Triennale 2025.
Akira Aoki
Independent Curator / Certified Social Worker
Born in 1989. Based in Tokyo and Kyoto. Graduated from the Industrial Art course at Tokyo Metropolitan University. He is currently a director at the GEITO Association.
Aoki views art as a “method for living better,” collaborating with artists, corporations, and local governments to organize various art projects. His major activities include serving as a guest curator for SENSE ISLAND / LAND 2024 (Yokosuka), facilitator for APK STUDIES (a learning program by Toda Corporation at the TODA BUILDING, 2025–), and director of Fantasia! Fantasia! —A Town Where Lifestyles Take Shape— (Sumida City, 2018–), which treats the city as a site of learning. His publications include Workshops that Reveal Our True Selves (Gakugei Shuppan, editor/author) and Phantom Limb Pain Diary (Kawade Shobo Shinsha, author).
